West Brunswick athletic director John Floyd has announced he'll retire, effective March 1. Floyd has worked in education for 26 years, and said he felt it was time to go.
"I'm going to enjoy myself," Floyd said.
His retirement comes at a pivotal time: The Trojans are playing their final season in the Waccamaw Conference before moving into a 3A/4A split conference with schools in New Hanover County in the 2013-2017 realignment. Floyd was a vocal proponent for the creation of that conference, but won't be around to help West Brunswick's transition.
Floyd said he didn't have any idea who the next athletic director would be, saying that's a decision for Brunswick County Schools.
