Boys Basketball

New Hanover 47, Pine Forest 29

The Wildcats led by one at the half and turned it on in the second half when they outscored Pine Forest 27-9.

Nigel Holley led the way with 16 points and 14 rebounds.

New Hanover (4-4) plays North Myrtle Beach (S.C.) on Thursday.



Lakewood 70, Trask 65

Rahseed Brown hit six 3-pointers and scored 27 points and Tynaffit Davis added 18 as the Titans lost a close game at home.

Trask (2-8, 0-2) plays Jan. 4 at Wallace-Rose Hill.



Union 50, Pender 35

The Patriots were down by two at the half but struggled in the second half when Union went on a 19-5 run.

Dezmond Faison led the way for Union with 13 points.

Union (4-4, 2-0) plays Dec. 28 vs. Lakewood.



South Columbus 54, West Bladen 49

A big third quarter was the deciding factor for South Columbus.

Blake Donnelly led the way for West with 19 points and four 3-pointers.

West Bladen (5-4) plays Dec. 28 in the Christmas tournament at West Bladen.



Girls Basketball

Clinton 41, East Bladen 34

The Eagles held a halftime lead, but a tough third quarter sent them to their second loss of the season.

Lacey Suggs had 11 points and nine rebounds for East Bladen (9-2), which is off until opening Waccamaw Conference play vs. South Columbus on Jan. 2.



Lakewood 52, Trask 28

The Titans struggled in the first half, were outscored 25-7 and couldn't bounce back in the second half.

Shawntia Green led Trask with 12 points.

Trask (4-6) plays West Brunswick next Thursday.



Covenant Day 63, Cape Fear Academy 43

The Hurricanes came out slow as Covenant Day jumped out to a 16-2 first-quarter lead.

Jay Batchler led the way with five 3-pointers and 15 points.

Cape Fear (3-7) plays Cannon on Friday.



Fairmont 67, South Brunswick 56

Ta-Chondria Bryant led the Cougars with 16 points and Brieanna Hewett added 12.

South Brunswick (0-6) plays Jones Senior next Thursday.
