Laney High School’s Brianna Baham takes pride in her defense and has become a stopper for the Bucs. Baham and her team held Jacksonville to 15 points and South Brunswick to only eight in a pair of early-season victories. Baham has blossomed into a productive offensive contributor as well. The junior had 28 total points in a pair of victories. We caught up with our most recent Player of the Week at practice.
When did you start playing basketball?
Seventh grade. I always wanted to play. In the sixth grade I wanted to but couldn’t so I just managed the team and then made the team the next year.
Who is your favorite women’s basketball player?
Seimone Augustus. She’s a great offensive and defensive player, and I love defense.
Best part of your game?
I love playing defense. Defense is a big key to winning. Offense plays through good defense. Play good defense and offensive points will happen naturally.
How were you and your teammates able to only allow 15 and eight points to opposing teams?
We executed well and played great defense.
What’s your favorite basketball movie?
"Love and Basketball"
Which team is your biggest rival?
Ashley, without a doubt. They’re as competitive as we are.
What do you want to be when you finish school?
Neonatal nurse or an athletic trainer.
Tell me about your team.
Our team is a great group of girls. We have high goals for each other and our team. We need to take one step at a time and execute. We have no drama. We do don’t do drama.
