Boys Basketball

Jacksonville 68, Laney 66

The Nathan Faulk era didn't begin the way the Buccaneers hoped as they dropped a close game at home to Lejeune.

"We came out flat and gave up 42 points in the first half," said the first-year coach. "We played much better defense in the second half, but it was too little too late."

Tariq Lane led the way for the Buccaneers with 15 points and Ty Balcombe added 10. Laney (0-1) plays South Brunswick on Thursday.



Hoggard 55

West Johnston 11


The Vikings picked up a dominating victory on the road over West Johnston. They were led by Trevor Singleton with 14 points and Austin Louthan with 11.

Hoggard (1-0) plays Saturday at Broughton.



Wilmington Christian 71 Lejeune 62

The Patriots were led by Jonah Attoe with 15 points.

Wilmington Christian (4-1) plays at Greenville Christian on Friday.



Lakewood 98 North Duplin 54

The Leopards were led by Kendrick Davis with 16 points. Cody Ivey scored 16 to lead the way for the Rebels (0-1), who play at Hobbton on Friday.



Parrott 52, Cape Fear 46

The Patriots were led by Evan Head with 16 points. Cape Fear (2-2) plays at Wake Christian on Friday.



Girls Basketball

East Bladen 43, East Columbus 36

The Eagles came out pressing and scored 12 unanswered points, which helped them knock off East Columbus on the road.

"We came out with a lot of energy and held on to the lead by pressing hard," said East Bladen coach Patty Evers. "They played great defense, but I think they (East Columbus) just got tired with our press."

"We were able to tie it, but in the end we needed to rebound better and we ran out of legs," said East Columbus coach Karlyn Stephens.

East Bladen (2-0) plays St. Pauls on Wednesday and East Columbus (0-1) plays at Whiteville on Friday.



Laney 59,Jacksonville 17

Tiana Edwards led the way for the Buccaneers with 14 points and Brianna Baham added 13 points. Laney (1-0) plays South Brunswick on Thursday.



West Johnston 32 Hoggard 27

The Vikings were held to one point in the second half of a disappointing loss at West Johnston.

"We were leading at halftime 26-20, and they came out in attack mode," Hoggard coach Boubacar Aw said. "We committed a lot of second-half turnovers, but we are a young team and this is expected."

Hoggard (0-1) plays Broughton on Saturday.



Coastal Christian 52 Dixon 46

Lauren Duncan led the way for the Centurions with 20 points and Nikki Huntley added 18. Coastal (3-2) plays Fayetteville Academy on Friday.

Jensen Attoe and Meredith Bunn led the Patriots with six points each. Wilmington Christian (1-3) plays at Greenville Christian on Friday.
