SW Edgecombe 30, East Duplin 26

BEULAVILLE | East Duplin's season ended in heartbreaking fashion in the first round of the Class 2AA playoffs when SouthWest Edgecombe scored the winning touchdown with 11 seconds left.

"We had a couple fourth-down plays where we didn't convert," said Panthers coach Battle Holley. "We had a chance to put them away and we didn't."

For a team that finished the regular season at 9-2, the loss was an unceremonious end to the season.

"I told them they played hard the whole year and fought till the end," Holley said. "I appreciate everything they've done and the work they've put it in. Sometimes in life things don't go the way you want them to, but the sun will come out again and you have to keep working at it."
