East Bladen 28, Whiteville 7

ELIZABETHTOWN | East Bladen locked up a berth into the second round of the 2A state playoffs on Friday night with ther victory over Whiteville.

The Eagles will play the winner of Eastern Randolph/Providence Grove next Friday.

"Overall we played alright," said Eagles coach Robbie Priest. "It wasn't the prettiest win in the world but we'll take it. Good defense and the passing game came in handy tonight."

Known to be a running team, the Eagles were effective in both offensive aspects on Friday, passing and running, with quarterback Stan Simms running for a score while throwing for two as well.

"The running sets up our ass with the play action so we just wait, try to get the defense sucked in, and then we throw it," Priest said. "We had some opportunities and we took advantage of it tonight.

As the team prepares for their next challenge, they know that, to truly improve, they must get the most out of themselves.

"We're just trying to get better next week," Priest said. "We'll watch tape, learn from our mistakes, and work on us. We'll worry about them, but we have to work on us to get better."
