BETHEL | Topsail's season came to an end in the first round of the Class 2AA state playoffs.
"We played hard, we just weren't physical enough for that bunch," said Pirates coach Bryan Davis. "Our kids did about as well as they could. We got down by two scores and we scored one right before the half. Then we came back in the second half and tied it up after recovering a kick that went off their player. We gave up two special teams touchdowns tonight and that really hurt."
Despite being tied at 21-21 after that kick recovery, the Pirates (7-4) knew they were in for a challenge against the more physical Panthers.
"We knew that we were going to have to play perfect in a lot of capacities," Davis said. "We knew that we were going to have play flawless. But, we were confident coming in."
