ROCKY POINT | When there are multiple technical fouls, fans being escorted out of the gym, catcalls coming from all corners of the stands and 59 foul shots, it's sometimes hard to remember there's still a basketball game being played.
Luckily for the Trask Titans, they stayed in control Friday night, showing poise in a 73-50 win over Union.
"It was a matter of keeping our composure," Trask coach Rodney Orr said. "There were whistles both teams didn't like. They drove the ball hard, and we were getting the ball inside, and there were just a ton of whistles. It's hard to play that way. You just end up with a choppy game instead of one with flow."
Midway through the third quarter, Rasheed Brown was fouled hard going to the hoop. Union guard Natrone Banks voiced his displeasure at the call and was whistled for a technical foul. Brown calmly hit all four free throws and Trask (8-13, 4-7) scored on the inbound play. A six-point lead became 12, and Union (8-12, 6-6) was out of it after that.
Brown finished with 23 points, with a lot of his baskets coming off second opportunities and drives.
"I thought Brown did a nice job of asserting himself on the offensive end by rebounding," Orr said. "Teams are starting to take him away, and he is learning to help us win without just shooting a three."
Union was led by T.D. Blackmore, Maurice Highsmith and Brandon Lovett, who combined for 35 points.
