WARSAW | The court case of former Wallace-Rose Hill High School football player Omar Carr was continued for a second time on Friday in Duplin County Court, this time to June 1, 2012.
Carr, a two-time state championship MVP running back for the Bulldogs, faces six felony drug charges stemming from a July drug bust by the Wallace Police Department, which alleges Carr sold ecstasy and Oxycodone pills to an undercover police officer. Police said Carr turned himself in July 11, shortly after finding out there were warrants for his arrest. His court date was originally continued on July 15.
In the wake of the charges, Carr was suspended after an independent investigation by Duplin County Schools. Carr no longer attends Wallace-Rose Hill, but principal M.D. Guthrie said Carr is still enrolled in the district. Guthrie declined to comment further.
Last Friday, Wallace-Rose Hill athletic director Tim Jenkins said he hadn't heard anything from Carr in several months. Football coach Joey Price repeatedly has declined to comment.
A number of local coaches said they'd been approached about Carr transferring to their program, but none took the running back – who rushed for more than 1,800 yards as a junior for Wallace-Rose Hill. NCHSAA rules only prohibit convicted felons from participation in high school sports.
